Getting here

Some may book package holidays and stay in some of the fine hotels that Kalkan offers whilst many more will book self catering accommodation through agencies or direct through owners.  Whichever you choose, it's most likely that you will arrive in Turkey by plane.

Dalaman Airport

Choosing flights

Kalkan is mainly served by two nearby airports.  Airlines offering direct flights include Easyjet, Jet2, Wizz, Tui, Pegasus and many more.

DLM : Dalaman airport is 125km from Kalkan and leisurely transfers take about 2 hours.

AYT : Antalya airport is 215km from Kalkan and leisurely transfers take approximately 4 hours.

Most visitors will choose DLM over AYT due to proximity and faster transfer times but AYT is the bigger airport with much higher number of flights, which usually means lower prices and more & varied choices during summer months.

During cooler winter months, flight routes are much more limited at DLM but there are services throughout the year with AYT having a much larger choice and connecting via Istanbul always a possibility.

With flights out of the way, getting to the resort should be the next thing you should be planning.

Before you arrive

Visas

British, Canadian, USA and EU citizens are not required to have a visa to visit Turkey.  Full list of countries and detailed visa requirements can be found at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

If you do require a visa, ensure that you are using the one and only official visa site.

Customs and quarantine

Turkey’s customs laws prevent you from bringing drugs, firearms and military ammunitions, pharmaceuticals (excluding those for personal use), meat and dairy products and radioactive substances into Turkey. There is no limit on imported currency but you will need to declare large amounts (more than 3000 GBP or equivalent).

Medications brought into Turkey for personal use is subject for free import. Pharmaceuticals for other reasons (non-personal use) are prohibited for import.

Vaccinations

There are no compulsory vaccinations required before entering Turkey although travellers are advised to be up to date with routine vaccination courses and boosters as recommended in the UK. These vaccinations include for example measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and diphtheria-tetanus-polio vaccine.  For some people, vaccination against Hepatitis A and tetanus is recommended.

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and Global Health Insurance card (GHIC) are not valid in Turkey.

Travel Insurance

Taking out a travel insurance policy that covers theft, loss, accidents and medical problems is highly recommended. If you plan on doing any adventure sports like scuba diving, paragliding, speed boating, check that your policy fully covers you.
